Let's enjoy a full moon easy hike at Boone County Arboretum at Central Park. A unique partnership was created between the Boone County government and the Boone County Cooperative Extension District to form the nation's first arboretum within an active recreation setting in May of 1999. Mr. Richard Ammon of Ammon Landscape drew the planting design, and seven local nurseries came together with hundreds of volunteers to bring the vision into reality. They currently have over 1100 trees and over 1700 shrubs, all mapped with global positioning technology.

We will hike approximately 3.5 miles on a lightly rolling paved trail around the park. The park is normally closed at dusk but I contacted the county parks director and he was more than happy to make an exception for our group. What southern hospitality! :)

Hopefully, Mr. Moon will show up to light our way but bring your flashlights/headlamps as a back up. You are welcome to bring your leashed dogs and be prepared to clean up their mess.

When you enter the park -- take the first immediate right and look for me by the trailhead kiosk on the left between the first and second ballfields. I plan on starting the hike at 8:10pm.

Hope everyone can come out and stretch your legs in the moonlight! :)

Listen for the "howling" animal that this place is known for, though we've never seen it up close,, it lurks in the background.....

Outstanding park, perfect weather, and got to hear a few owls.
    •  Beautiful night and a lovely full moon. Thanks Kelly!
    •  once again, Kelly brought out a lovely moon for us.
    •  It was a perfect night. The moon was full;the trail was smooth; the people very friendly; & the pace was great! I wouldn't have doing 5 miles! I would do this again in a heartbeat, day or night. I'm sure there were lots of lovely plants to see. It was the "Moon" and Venus that took center stage this evening, tho. It was nice to say Southern Hospitality prevailed and I met a hand full of new people. That was great!
    •  I throughly enjoyed the walk and meeting lots of new people. Central Park was easy to find and beautifully kept up. Looking forward to many more hikes with this group.

This hike was excellent! Thanks Kelly for being so informative and helpful!
    •  Mr. Moon showed up in all his glory tonight accompanied by perfect temps! We had a large number of 'newbies' tonight joining us which is always great to see! No scary howling this time but we did have to round up a few 'lost sheep' in the end. :>
    •  This was a very good place to hike, and the full moon co-operated.
    •  Great time as always!
    •  Great location and weather for it. Hope to do many more.
