Let's head up to Germantown Metropark and tackle the 6.8 mile Orange Trail. Germantown protects Montgomery County's largest tract of mature forest featuring deep ravines, huge trees, and beautiful Twin Creek. The Orange loop trail is the longest of many trails the park has to offer. This is a rugged and strenuous trail (especially if there is snow on the trail), requiring all participants to be properly conditioned and dressed for winter hiking. We'll meet in the parking lot of the Meijer at the Tylersville Rd. exit off I-75 around 8:45 am and leave promptly at 9 am. I'm planning on driving, but we'll need at least a couple additional volunteers to drive, with riders pitching in for gas. Plan on 3 - 4 hours to hike the trail. We'll hike at moderately fast past, but leisurely enough to take in and enjoy the scenery. Please bring plenty of water as well as lunch/snack as we'll plan on stopping for lunch. There are many options in the surrounding area for a post hike bite to eat or drink if we so choose. Plan on returning the Cincinnati area in the late afternoon/early evening.
This is definitely a hike suited for a smaller group, so I have set a RVSP limit. Feel free to get on the waiting list if you aren't able to RVSP by the time the hike is full, but please, please follow the club's etiquette and don't attend if you are still on the waiting list on the morning of the hike.
