The forecast is looking good Tuesday for a late afternoon hike. This is an out-and-back hike covering about 2.5 -- 3 miles. There is a 200ft descent right out of the parking lot down to the creekbed then it's pretty easy hiking back and forth along the creek. This is a beautiful, wide creek so bring your waterproof boots as we will cross the creek and check out the the trails on the other side as well.

The park consists of 122 acres of hiking opportunities, nature study and the outdoor experience of steep topography on the upgraded 1800s logging trail. The elevation travels from 830 feet to 620 feet and ends very near the creek at a stone seating area. Surrounding hills contain deciduous woods and lower elevations along the creek contain floodplain forest and scrubby vegetation. A stand of mature oaks on the northern hillside is one of the region's best remaining undisturbed areas of woodland. Gunpowder Creek has created geologic history as its journey through the valley has carved expositions of limestone, shale and clay at several locations.

Dogs are welcome to join us. I will start the hike at 4:00 sharp -- if you arrive late, just head down the gravel road at the end of the parking lot -- take the first left and you will find us along the creek at the bottom. There are only 6 or so parking spots in the park's lot but there is plenty of additional parking on adjacent subdivision streets. Don't forget to bring water for hydration!

Please note -- this park is tucked away in the back of a subdivision. If you have any questions on directions, please drop me an email.

    •  Ok -- so this hike was cut a bit short by a scaredy-dog stranded in the creek. Yes, his mom finally had to go back out and rescue the little heathen and ended up with soaked feet. GRRRRR -- he's lucky I love him so much. LOL The good news is that it was Kimmy's first creek crossing (over and back) and what a trooper she was! She did it the 'dry' way like a smart girl. We had lots of fun and giggles and hid three geocaches along the way. Thanks for coming Kim -- you always make for a great day!
