Introduction
Hi. I love the outdoors and will engage in just about anything that will get me "out there". I love backpacking so I'm thrilled to find a hiking meetup group. I'm joining in hopes that it will increase my opportunities to take a break and hike!
What is your favorite thing to do in the outdoors? (keep it rated PG, your mother might read this)
Expeditions. By foot, bike, motorcycle, canoe, kayak, stilts, whatever!

What is your favorite place to hike in the Cincinnati / Tri-State area?
Caesars Creek, Houston Woods, Sharon Woods, Renchler Forest Preserve, East Fork Lake, Red River Gorge, Hocking Hills, all the parks that the Cinicinnati Orienteering Club have mapped.
What is your craziest hiking memory (or "have you ever been chased by a bear")
A hiking buddy's feet were cold on a winter hike and he tried to warm them at the fire. He went to "dig a cathole", & when he came back into the firelight we saw that he had melted the soles of his boots & now sticks and leaves were IN the soles.

My name is Chris Campbell and i joined the club 2 or 3 days ago and i am still vary new to backpacking and i was wondering if you could help me with getting started. One thing is im not sure what all gear i need to get i have some things like a tent but im not sure what backpack to get.

Hi Dave! I enjoy backpacking too! I haven't done much of it since moving back to the East Coast in 1995 and would love to explore the ridges in local hills of KY or AT in TN. I have been on various parts of the AT (VT, NJ, PA, VA). If you get the time to organize, a group BP weekend would be great.

Nice to meet you Dave. We love to camp and day hike but have never been backpacking. Now that our kids are getting older and things are slowing down a bit, we figure it's time to do the things we've dreamed about for awhile. We look forward to learning the ropes from all the experts and hopefully meeting some newbies and friends along the way.

Dave, thanks for the email. I appreciate the greeting. Angie and I are definitely into camping and we love to hike. We are just wanting to do more incorporating of the two together. Most of our camping has been in organized nat'l or state parks. I look forward to meeting you, and will sign up for something soon.
